A beach is a geological formation consisting of loose particles of rock - such as sand, gravel, pebbles - or shell remains along the shoreline of a body of water. Beaches are often found along coastal areas, where sea waves or currents help to settle sediments, or on the shores of rivers or lakes that are subject to erosion. Beaches are not necessarily located near a modern body of water.
