Palmerston North is a city on the North Island of New Zealand and the seat of the Manawatu-Wanganui region. Located in the east of the Manavatu Plain, the city is close to the northern bank of the Manavatu River, 35 km from the mouth of the river and 12 km from the end of the Manavatu Gorge, about 140 km north of the capital Wellington. Palmerston North is the eighth largest city in the country.
